Canadian National No. 6116 was a 4-8-4 "Confederation" type steam locomotive built by the Canadian Locomotive Company in September 1927 (builder's serial number 1816). Designed for high-speed passenger service and heavy freight, locomotives of this class became some of Canadian National's most powerful and versatile steam engines. No. 6116 spent over three decades hauling trains across the CN system before being retired and scrapped in 1959 during the transition from steam to diesel power. The original brass number plate shown here is a surviving artifact from a locomotive that once represented the peak of Canadian steam locomotive engineering.
