Since the 1900s, pneumatic tires have smoothed the ride for generations of drivers. Auto makers are among the biggest single buyers of new tires, but Tire Plants also make tires for bicycles, airplanes, construction equipment and farm machinery as well. Making tires requires an amazing variety of raw materials: the average radial car tire requires 30 different types of natural rubber, 8 types of synthetic rubber, 8 different types of carbon black, 1 pound of steel belts, 1 pound of polyester and nylon, 1 pound of steel bead wire and 3 pounds of 40 different chemicals! And virtually all of it arrives at the plant by rail.
 
As a stand-alone industry supporting your Auto Assembly Plant (932-3079 sold separately), this big HO Scale factory will provide plenty of traffic for any railroad. Built in the brick curtain style which first appeared in the 1920s, buildings like this are still going strong today. The finished model is a 3-story brick structure, complete with two smoke stacks, a roof-top water tank, an enclosed rail car loading dock, truck dock, and a huge storage silo for carbon black. Separate doors and windows are standard, while complete instructions and colorful signs round out this impressive industry.
